To decide which size skip you need, you need to have a good estimate of how much waste your project will be producing.

Selecting the right size skip for your waste is crucial in ensuring you aren’t wasting money on your skip! Take a look at our guide below to help choose which size skip would be best suited:

For small amounts of waste, you would need to look at around a 3 tonne or 4 tonne.

A 3-tonne skip can hold between 25-35 black bin bags and a 4 tonne can hold 30-40 bin bags.

This size is most suited for small home projects or garden renovations.

For a larger amount or for builder’s rubble, we would recommend a 6 tonne or 8 tonne.

These are most commonly used for construction projects or larger home projects.

A 6-tonne skip can hold 50-60 bin bags and an 8 tonne will hold 60-80 bin bags.

Our larger skip sizes include 12 yard, 14 yard and 16 yard. These can be best suited for larger garden renovations or refurbishment projects like shop fitting. A 12 yard skip holds 100-120 bin bags, a 14 yard would hold 120-140 bin bags and a 16 yard 140-160 bin bags.

The next size up from this would be a roll on roll off skip bin which is suitable for bulky waste or very large amounts. These range from a 20 yard to a 40 yard.

Roll on roll offs are best suited to industrial or commercial waste removal projects, they are heavy-duty skip bins and can hold up to 440 bin bags.

Considering Your Skip Location

To hire a skip you must ensure you have the space to have this on site.

If your skip is going to be placed on private land such as a driveway or front garden, then we can drop this off for you without requiring a council permit.

If you need to have your skip left on public land, such as a road outside your house, you will require a council permit. Here at KCM, we arrange all of this for you so that once you have booked your skip, you don’t have the hassle of trying to acquire a permit yourself! We would recommend allowing at least 9 foot of width for our skip lorries to be able to deliver your skip safely!
